Vegan & Gluten free Walnut and Date Brownies

In Paris we were for brunch in a wonderful vegan and sugar free cafe called Cafe Imagine. We talked to the owner a lot about healthy food and how many people eat so unhealthy these days. So for 2019 we decided to start and eat less sugar. Now we are trying some recipes without adding any sugar to the ingredients, these brownies just have the sugar of the chocolate chips. Otherwise dates give them their super soft consistency and sweet flavour. It’s just delicious and in the same time healthy!




  • 1 ½ cup pitted dates
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • ½ cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts



Start by putting the dates in the container of your blender. Add boiling water until it covers them completely. Allow the dates to soak for 15 minutes and preheat the oven to 350F.

Blend the soaked dates on high until it forms a smooth dough-like mixture. Add flaxseed, cocoa powder, baking powder and vanilla extract and blend again until everything is well combined.

Transfer to a large bowl and mix in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Grease up a small oven-pan and spread in the brownie dough evenly.

Bake for 20 minutes and allow it at least 10 minutes to cool down before digging in!
