Falafels themselves are already a culinary delight, but oh boy how I love these Falafel Burgers! Easy, cheap and fast to make they are the perfect summer dinner. With our Sweet Potato Fries as a side they will be a hit on your next summer party or family dinner.
- 1 can chickpeas
- ½ onion (finely chopped)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- Fresh coriander and parsley to taste (chopped)
- ½ tsp chilli powder
- 3 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Drain and rinse the chickpeas and put them in a blender or food processor until it becomes a smooth and thick paste (you can also mash it by hand if you want). Transfer to a medium mixing bowl and start by incorporating the flour and olive oil. Throw in the chopped onion and mix until it is evenly spread in the paste.
Next, you can add all the spices and mix one more time. Once you’re done with this, it’s time to form your patties! Just grab 1/4 or less of the patty paste with your hands and give it the shape and size that you want. This recipe should give you four or five patties and you can freeze the extra ones for your next meal.
For the cooking, you have two options. You can either deep fry it in oil like you would with regular falafel or, for a healthier alternative, you can simply bake it in the oven at 425F/220C for 20-30 minutes (flipping them halfway through). Once the patties are done, it’s time to assemble your burgers. Tomato (sun-dried or fresh), cucumber, lettuce, and hummus are all good choice with falafel patties but almost every usual burger topping fits so just put whatever your belly screams for!
