Vegan Tofu-Ricepaper Burgers “Chicken” Style

You’d like to help the planet, not hurt animals and do something for your own health, but that chicken burger tastes so good? No worries, there is an alternative!

This burger patty imitates even the skin of a chicken burger, it is just as tasty as the “real” thing (I’d even say more tasty!) and the best part: it is completely cruelty free!

Ingredients (makes 4 patties)

  • 250gr of tofu (pressed and cut into 4 patty sized slices)
  • 4 sheets of rice paper
  • 4 burger buns
  • tomato, avocado, lettuce (optional)

Dry mix:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp dried marjoram
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1-2 tsp salt

Wet Mix:

  • ½ cup of flour
  • 3 tbsp corn starch
  • Around ¾ cup sparkling water or beer

Recipe

In a medium bowl, mix all the ingredients under “dry mix”.

In a separate bowl, mix everything under “wet mix” except the water or beer. Once you’ve mixed it well, add water/beer until the constancy feels right (it should be pretty liquid, but still thick enough so that it can stick to the tofu).

Fill a big container with water and soak a sheet of rice paper in it until it becomes completely soft. Take one of your tofu slices and put it in the middle of the soaked rice paper. Fold the paper around the tofu (you can cut away the extra rice paper if it’s too big) and press on it with your hands to close it tightly. Repeat the same process for the rest of the tofu.

Now for the coating, you need to dip each slice of tofu in the dry mix first. Once they are fully coated in flour, dip them in the wet mix and in the dry one once again.

Fill a pan with vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat. Once the oil is warm, put your tofu in and fry on each side until it gets to a golden like color.

Serve with a side, such as our Sweet Potato Fries.
